Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo Quick Review: Lucky Seven

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo

23 years later, we’re travelling back to Midgard in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Originally slated for a 10th April launch, on the 2nd of March, the demo version of the game had a surprise release on the Playstation Store. We had to download it immediately, and here’s our thoughts on the demo itself.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo Gameplay

Of course, being an old game brought into the year 2020 with updated visuals. The graphic update on this is amazing. The visuals are stunning and it totally lived up to my expectation (It was pretty high going into the game). I wasn’t disappointed at all when I saw the characters sprung to life with year 2020 CGI.

The characters are also still very much close to the source material. They’re still the same lovable individuals from the old game, and I’m glad Square Enix didn’t change a single thing from that. Tifa and Aerith are still the goddesses they are (pardon the fanboy in me) and Cloud is still just… Cloud, but with flowier hair.

Combat is something you’d spend alot of time on with this game. That being said, apart from the airborne enemies, everything else I’m okay with. Gameplay and enemy fights on land is comfortable, cause I can actually see everything I’m hitting and smashing. But when it comes enemies in the sky or something that requires me to look up, I’m not a fan of. And that’s partially due to the camera, which I’ll get into later.

For the fight system, it feels fluid and polished. The battle system is something similar to the ones you’d find from Final Fantasy VX or Kingdom Hearts. There’s action-based real-time systems, and then there’s turn-based strategy design, which is fantastic. The dodge cancels and stance cancels feel good.

We’re not going to go too detail into the combat system, because it’s something you need to experience to actually acknowledge how well the fight system flows as part of the game.

Of course, if you’re not a fan of the hybrid style fight system, there is an option for you to change it back to just the turn-based style ala the original FF7 game.

Conclusion

Final Fantasy 7 Remake

I really loved how Square Enix made the upgrade to the 23-year old fan favourite classic, Final Fantasy 7. Deep down, I know it’s an old game. But with every action I do on screen, it looks and feels new with the old game spirit still in tact.

This game is really something else, and we strongly suggest you try it out for yourself. It’s now available to download from the Playstation Store. And if you are able to download the demo before the 10th of May, you’d also be granted access to download the exclusive theme which will be releasing on launch day itself – 10th April 2020.
