Huawei first unveiled the Huawei Mate X back in 2019, and now the company is ready to announce its successor. The Huawei Mate Xs is the company’s next step in foldable smartphones, transforming a 6-inch smartphone into a fully flat 8-inch tablet.
The Huawei Mate Xs utilises the new and improved Falcon Wing Hinge, made from zirconium-based liquid metal. When unfolded, the smartphone shows off its near borderless screen, that is protected with an outer layer made of double aerospace-grade optical polymide.
Specifications
Powered by the company’s proprietary Kirin 990 processor, the chip is built on the 7nm process. Running on a Kirin 990, the Huawei Mate Xs supports both 5G standards – standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA). It will also come with both 5G and 4G dual SIM card standby. The smartphone is also equipped with 8GB of RAM, with 512GB storage.
When it comes to camera, the Huawei Mate Xs has a SuperSensing Quad Camera system. It’s pretty similar to the one found on the Mate 30 Pro 5G. You’d get:
- 40MP main sensor
- 16MP ultra-wide angle camera
- 8MP telephoto camera
- 3D depth sensing camera
On top of that, the camera also supports both AIS and OIS super image stabilisation, 30x hybrid zoom capabilities, and achieve a maximum ISO of 204,800.
Running on EMUI 10.01 based on the Android 10 platform, the Huawei Mate Xs comes with the implementation of Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). This means apps will need to be installed from the Huawei AppGallery instead of the Google Play Store.
Powering the Huawei Mate Xs is a 4,500mAh battery that supports Huawei’s 55W superfast charging. The battery is also certified by TUV Rheinland to ensure safety of the device.
Productivity wise, the Huawei Mate Xs allows you to open up three apps at the same time. Besides that, you can even drag and drop to move files and photos from one app to another easily. There is also the app multiplier feature that can show two instances of the same app simultaneously. That’s not all, as you can pin apps on the dock so you could effortlessly switch apps using the Multi Window feature.

The Huawei Mate Xs will be sold for 2499 Euros (approx. RM11,330). It will come in two colours – gold and grey. Stay tuned to The AXO to find out when or if the Mate Xs is making its way to Malaysian shores.
