The Nikon Z8 weighs only 910g, while boasting features found on the larger Nikon Z9. For starters, the Z8 can record up to approximate 125 minutes in 4K60 and up to 90 minutes in 8K30. Videographers can appreciate the camera’s 4-axis display that can be tilted vertically and horizontally while shooting.

Videographers can choose from a wide variety of video formats, including 12-bit NRAW, ProRes RAW, 10-bit Apple ProRes 422 HQ and 8 bit-H265 SDR. For those who demand high frame rates, the Nikon Z8 is capable of 4K 120p. Users can also amp it up to 8.3K60 (in N-RAW only) and 8K30. N-Log is also available to make colour grading a breeze.

The Z8 boasts a Pre-Release Capture function, that can record up to 1 second before the shutter button is fully pressed, or up to 4 seconds after the shutter button is fully pressed.

The camera’s autofocus is capable of detecting 3% of human face size in the frame. Subject detection also works in 3D-tracking, auto-area autofocus, or 20 types of custom wide-area AF. The AF detection range is now down to -7 EV, allowing enhanced detection of subjects under darker conditions.

The autofocus system can identify and track up to 9 different kinds of subjects, including airplanes. The new support for HLG (HEIF) format provides an option for 10-bit still images and richer tonal gradation.

The Z8 boasts a skin-softening feature which auto-detects human faces and softens the skin, while keeping the eyes and hair sharp. Users can also apply this effect on videos, live streaming and stills. This also helps minimise editing with the portrait impression balance effect, which automatically enhances portraits in-camera by adjusting the hue and brightness.

Pricing & Availability

The Nikon Z8 will be available starting today for RM18,338 for body only, and RM22,608 with a 24-120mm f4 kit lens.
