The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is now on store shelves and to say people are hyped is an understatement. Ever since Samsung brought back the clam shell form factor for smartphones with the Galaxy Z Flip series, folding phones have become more accessible and commonplace. However, the gripe among users had always been about the battery life and durability of the folding screen. Fortunately for us, Samsung has finally brought in much needed improvements with the release of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4.
Much Improved Battery Life
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 now comes with a larger 3,700mah battery, up from 3,300mah from the previous generation. Back when I had the Z Flip3, the battery anxiety was real. It could barely last a day even with conservative use, and I had to ration my usage while lugging a power bank around for longer trips. I have spent countless hours just to find life hacks to further optimize the battery life.
New Chipset Is Now More Efficient
While the battery capacity upgrade seems minor, its battery life is much improved thanks to a more powerful and efficient Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. Using the phone feels snappy and lag is almost non-existent during my daily use. The 120Hz adaptive display works wonders at improving battery life as it automatically adjusts its frame rate to suit different apps, which could go as low as 1Hz while displaying static frames.
Granted, I am more of a medium user, where most of my usage revolves around music streaming, watching videos on YouTube and light gaming during my daily LRT commutes. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 managed to last me an entire day with 30-40% to spare before bed time.
Fast Charging Gives You More Juice
If you are a heavy user who relies on your phone for entertainment, hope is not lost! The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 now supports 25W fast charging, and upgrade from the previous model’s 15W. During my tests, I found that I could get the battery from 0% to 50% in about 30 minutes, which provide more than enough juice when you need it.
All in all, battery life should no longer be a concern. While it does not have the largest battery, it is definitely sufficient except for the most discerning of hardcore users.
More Durable Than Before

Another common complaint from users were the concerns regarding the durability of its folding screen. Samsung had taken tremendous steps to make them better.
Folding Screen Tested For 200,000 Folds
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is now equipped with the latest Ultra Thin Glass, and the device had been thoroughly tested and certified for 200,000 folds. If we put this into math terms, lets say you open and close the phone 50 times a day, you can easily get 10 years of use out of the Flip4.
Built With Durability In Mind

The Flip4 is also equipped with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both the cover screen and rear glass, which the manufacturer claims is 4 times tougher than competing glass brands. The hinge and metal frame is also made of Armor Aluminum to be more rugged than before.
Water Resistance
To complete the durability package, the Galaxy Z Flip4 is rated for IPX8 water resistance, which is the first foldable phone that is certified for water resistance. You can use the phone during outdoor conditions worry-free.
Conclusion

While the earlier Samsung foldable phones suffered from some teething issues, their latest foray into foldable smartphone has addressed the most concerning aspects of owning a foldable phone with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4.
With prices starting at RM 4,099, owning a foldable smartphone is becoming more affordable for the masses. Check out our full review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 here, and if you want to snag one of these bad boys, head over to Samsung’s Official Store here.
