How It Works
The Charby Orbit Infinity Mount is a prop-up style phone stand that magnetically attaches to MagSafe devices like the iPhone. If you are on Android, Charby also has you covered. You can opt for the Orbit Pad 2 and stick it to the back of your phone.
Now here’s where it gets interesting. The Orbit Infinity Mount comes with a mount adapter that can be adhered to any smooth surface, allowing you to attach the mount magnetically to it. For uneven or rough surfaces, you can purchase the Charby Nano Gel Pad separately or as a bundle.
How Does It Perform?
The magnets are quite strong despite how slim it is. It managed to withstand my shake and flick test with ease. I also find the articulation to be well executed, allowing me to use the phone in a variety of angles and orientations.
The base has cross shaped cutouts that match the Orbit Mount Adapter. As long as you angled the adapter correctly while installing, the Charby Orbit Infinity Mount should always be upright, regardless of portrait or landscape orientation. That is not all however, the base of the Infinity Mount is compatible with mini tripods, allowing you to use it as a tripod adapter as well.
While phone stands and mounts that you can find at accessory shops can get the job done, none come close to being a complete ecosystem like Charby does. As everything is attached to magnets and mount adaptors, it freed up significant clutter on my desk and kitchen top. Instead of getting multiple mounts- clamps, sticky gel, aircond vents etc, I only needed to get a few Charby adapters and it would work.
However, there is a downside to the Infinity Mount, and that would be wireless charging, or the lack of. With the mount attached, I couldn’t get my phone to detect the charger, so I had to remove it every time I needed to charge. While this is not a major issue for me, it does add to the frustration a bit considering how convenient it has been so far. And of course, for something this small, you run the risk of misplacing it.
To properly get Magsafe charging passthrough, you’ll need to place the Magsafe/wireless charge on top of the mount, as shown below:
Final Thoughts
