Previously, we have reviewed the ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab Edition and we absolutely loved how well it performed. Since then, ROG had introduced the white version. That’s not all, as both the black and white versions are now equipped with the new ROG Omni Receiver. In this follow-up review, I will focus on the new ROG Omni Receiver and how it works.
What is the ROG Omni Receiver?
The ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab Edition is among the first ROG gaming peripheral to come with an ROG Omni Receiver. Unlike any other wireless 2.4G dongles, the Omni Receiver allows multiple devices connections using only one dongle.
Setting Up
In order for the Omni Receiver to work, you would have to install Armoury Crate. Upon connecting the ROG Harpe Ace, I had to go through a series of firmware updates to the mouse and receiver. Once it is done, the Omni Receiver will appear as a device in Armoury Crate.
After selecting the device, you are greeted by a screen displaying your paired devices. Currently, the Omni Receiver can connect to a mouse and a keyboard simultaneously. The pairing process is straightforward as the app will guide the user step by step.
Currently, the Omni Receiver only works with both the Black and White Harpe Ace, and the ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless Keyboard. If you plan to connect to a new keyboard / mouse in the future, you would have to unpair them and reconfigure via Armoury Crate.
Wireless Performance
As far as performance goes, it feels identical to using the keyboard and mouse with the 2.4G wireless dongle. I did not notice any latency differences and lag spikes during gameplay.
Final Thoughts
While the ROG Omni Receiver is a nifty concept, currently it supports a very limited number of peripherals. With that said, if ROG includes this receiver to all their upcoming peripheral lineup, it could help gamers free up their USB ports and reduce clutter.
