DDR5 RAMs offer significantly faster faster speeds than their predecessor, and are getting more commonplace as Intel 13th Gen and AMD Zen 4 processors roll out from the production line.
Thermaltake has sent us the TOUGHRAM XG D5 RGB DDR5 RAM for review, with speeds up to 6,200 MT/s, it is certainly no slouch on paper.

Design

The Thermaltake TOUGHRAM XG D5 RGB comes in two colour options: black and white. Whichever colour you choose, the RAM has a two-tone finish, with one side being grey with geometric line accents. An ARGB light strip runs along the top of the heatsink too.
The Thermaltake and product line logo is placed at the black/white corner.
Test Bench Specifications
For our test bench, we used the 6,000MT/s variant.

Performance

Being a DDR5 RAM with two channels per stick, the TOUGHRAM is capable of running quad channel with two sticks. This translates to much better performance, and when combined with significantly faster memory speeds, it easily crushes Cinebench R23.
In real world performance terms, the test system is blazingly fast, and can take on heavy workloads with ease. Turning on XMP profile allows the RAM to run at its rated speed, no overvolting and manual memory overclocking necessary.
Aesthetics

The TOUGHRAM is a great looking piece of memory kit. The geometric design looks sleek and futuristic, and the RGB strip helps take your PC customisation to the next level. While Thermaltake has its own RGB suite, MSI Center and ASUS Armory Crate are able to detect the RAM and change its lighting settings as well.
Our Verdict

In performance terms, DDR5 is much faster compared to the predecessor. However, the price of DDR5 RAM still remains a barrier for many to upgrade to the latest generation of processors.
Despite the hefty RM1,089 price tag, the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM XG D5 RGB is one of the more affordable high performance DDR5 RAMs out there. If you need a high performance DDR5 RAM right now, this should at least be in your shortlist.
