It has only been a short few years since PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs have seen mass market adoption. The seat hasn’t even been warm, and PCIe 5.0 NVMe M.2 SSDs like the MSI Spatium M570 have entered the market to knock them off the perch.
Today, we are reviewing the NVMe M.2 SSD in question, which is nothing short of impressive. Do read on for our more in-depth look.

Design
The MSI Spatium M570 is available in either 1TB or 2TB capacities. Our review sample is the 1TB variant, with a claimed sequential read speed up to 9,500 MB/s and write speed up to 8,500 MB/s.
It comes with a large heatsink that envelopes the entire SSD. One issue I noticed when it comes to installation is that due to the SSD is contained inside a cage, it might interfere with some motherboard heatsinks like the MSI Z790 Carbon WiFi, which have heatsinks for the top and bottom of M.2 SSDs. For my case I had to remove both heatsinks in order to fit the M570.
Performance
Since the MSI Spatium M570 runs on PCIe 5.0 interface, it exhibited excellent read/ write speeds. On CrystalDiskMark, it managed a sequential read speed of 7,121.99 MB/s and write speed of 6,641.88 MB/s. While it is not exactly as fast as its theoretical limit, it is still much faster than PCIe 4.0 counterparts such as the Spatium M370 which is only half as fast.
Random read and write speeds does suffer quite a bit though, putting it almost on par with its PCIe 4.0 counterpart.
Final Verdict
While the MSI Spatium M570’s performance numbers are impressive, we need to address the elephant in the room a bit. PCIe 5.0 is still not a mainstream interface standard and is exclusive to select high end motherboards.
With that said, if you could splurge for top of the line hardware, the MSI Spatium M570 is a solid choice if your budget allows for it.
