AMD has announced the Ryzen 7040U series of mobile processors, offering up to 8-cores and 16-threads, up to 5.1Ghz max boost clock, and AMD Radeon 700M integrated GPUs with a TDP of between 15W to 30W.
These new processors will be available in four variants: the Ryzen 7 7840U, Ryzen 5 7640U, Ryzen 5 7540U, an Ryzen 3 7440U respectively.
Ryzen 7040U Series Performance

Based on AMD’s internal testing, the Ryzen 7 7840U offers more performance than the Intel Core i7-1360P in several benchmarks. It is 89% faster in Passmark, and 128% faster in media encoding performance.

The company has also compared the top tier chip against the Apple M2, though we are unsure which specific M2 chip is being used for this comparison. The Ryzen 7 7840U edges the M2 chip in most applications, while offering 75% better performance in Passmark 10.
Radeon 780M Graphics Performance

The Radeon 780M IGPU found on the Ryzen 7 7840U beats the Intel i7-1360P with Iris Xe graphics in several game titles as well. Though do in mind that Iris Xe is not designed for modern AAA gaming.
Ryzen AI on Select Ryzen 7040U Series Processors

The Ryzen 7 7840U and Ryzen 5 7640U are the first AI processors of their kind. Both processors are powered by Ryzen AI, which can improve over time by freeing up performance for other tasks. It also supports Microsoft Studio Effects Pack in Windows 11.
