Design

Samsung Galaxy S22+ Review: Elegantly Designed With Enhanced Photography Experience 10

The Galaxy S22+ in comparison to its predecessor Galaxy S21 series has a flatter and yet elegant profile. It comes in a glass and haze finish on the back and the unit we got on hand comes in the sweet Pink Gold that complement its rose gold side really well.

On the back of the Galaxy S22+, it retains the camera piece on the top left of the back case with a bump and the flash sitting right beside it. I was hoping they would make it flatter but the flatten design is only available on the Galaxy S22+ Ultra variant.

The Galaxy S22+ keeps buttons and ports minimal, with the volume and power button on the right and the charging port, sim card slot and speaker on the bottom of the phone.

On the display side of the phone, it is kept clean that you can barely see the frame and the punch hole camera on the top middle of the display screen.

The Galaxy S22+ comes with a 6.6″ Dynamic AMOLED display. It is able to support up to 120Hz and is equipped with Vision Booster to adjust the screen to the environment. The peak brightness is able to reach 1,750nits which is said to be the brightest display on a Galaxy Smartphone so far.

The screen size is comfortable and with the 120Hz refresh rate, you are able to enjoy a smooth viewing experience no matter during games or watching videos.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ is packed with the latest 8Gen 4nm processing Snapdragon Chip along with 8GB ROM + 256GB RAM on the unit that we have on hand. The processing power is good enough to run and launch each apps smoothly and without delay. However, when it comes to some heavy duty games like Genshin Impact which requires high demand in graphic and processing power it is not able to run the game at the highest setting.

Battery

The Galaxy S22+ has a 4,500mAh battery and we were able to squeeze about 14 hours of usage time out of it for daily use. It supports 45W charging with wired charging cable and 15W charging while wireless.

Camera

Samsung aims to bring the best videography and photography experience on the Galaxy S22 series. The Galaxy S22+ come with three rear camera (12MP Ultra-Wide Camera, 50MP Wide Camera, 10MP Telephoto Camera) and a 10MP Front Camera.

With the upgraded hardware it has a 108 mega pixel camera and the pixels are 1.23 times larger than the S21 Ultra. Along with the upgraded software, the night photography experience has been enhanced to capture more details and colors in the dark.

Apart from that, the portrait mode is now supported by the new AI Stereo Depth Map that makes even the smallest details like hair to stay in focus while bokeh-ing and blurring the background.

User Experience

Using the Galaxy S22+ for a while now, I love the grip it has but still wish it has a flatten camera piece so that I would not accidentally hit the bump. But overall the smooth texture makes the device nice to hold. Apart from that, I did not notice any overheating problem from using the Galaxy S22+ over a long period of time or any discomfort due to heating while holding the phone over long hours of use.

Some of you might have noticed that the S22+ does not have an audio jack port, who needs one anyway. Smartphones nowadays does not come with the wired earphones anymore and connecting a TWS earbuds to your device is fast and easy thanks to the fast pairing Bluetooth. Grab yourself a budget earbuds that fit your wallet and your needs and its convenient and do no need to worry about wires getting hooked when moving around. We did quite a few earbuds review so feel free to check them out.

Samsung smartphone do comes with a ecosystem app as well like the collaboration view where if you own other Samsung devices like the Tabs, you can continue using the apps on other devices when you swap. You can also link to windows and enjoy using mobile apps without needing to check your phone from time to time while working on the computer.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy S22+ Review: Elegantly Designed With Enhanced Photography Experience 32

The Galaxy S22+ is a great phone to grab if you have not changed phone for a while now. I was quite worried about the overheating battery issue when I started using due to past experience but there was not overheating issue on the Galaxy S22+ which is good for people who stays on their phone for long hours. Gaming was a little bit underwhelming but of course you can’t compared it to gaming focused phones out there which are optimized for it.

Photography and entertainment experience are great on the device but for those whom know the Galaxy S series phone that focused on Ultra Zoom for a few years now should note that Samsung brought there focus back on producing better photos without the ultra zoom feature. I am pretty happy about it as Ultra Zoom is not a feature you would use daily.

While if you have recently just grab yourself the Galaxy S21 I would say that the changes are not that great to hop on to the Galaxy S22+. However, you may want to take a look at the Galaxy S22 Ultra which we will be reviewing next.

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ is now available to purchase on their official store, Shopee, Lazada and also with their dedicated telco partners.
