Cooler Master GD160 ARGB Gaming Desk Review: Beast Of A Table

Cooler Master GD160 ARGB Gaming Desk

Cooler Master recently introduced the Cooler Master GD160 ARGB Gaming Desk. What makes this desk stand out is that its the first electric height adjusting desk with built in RGB lighting. So of course we were beyond excited to try this product out, and here’s what we thought about it.

What’s In The Box?

The box comes in two parts, mainly the table top and the legs, which the ARGB controllers and motors are packed together as well. Also included are the user manual, installation guide, all necessary screws, screwdriver, Allen key (hex key), and of course cables. However, to make things easier, we’d recommend having an electric screwdriver handy.

The Cooler Master GD160 ARGB desk comes unassembled, and the idea that we had to put this together on our own was quite intimidating at first because of the user manual with all its many lines and what nots. Once you really get into it, its not that hard. We actually managed to put everything together in 30 minutes. The satisfaction of knowing we built this desk is just awesome.

Ample Desk Real Estate

The Cooler Master GD160 ARGB desk itself is huge, and it feels really solid and polished. So much desk real estate, you can literally put one ATX PC Case, and two 32 inch monitors. Or even move the PC case to the floor, and you can fit three 27 inch monitors, no problem. It gives me extra space to decorate the table with some of my Funko Pops as well. I loved the extra space mainly because I could just have my notebook sprawled on the table while I worked without having to move stuff around.

The largest table I’ve used is 120cm in length, so the Cooler Master GD160 is a breath of fresh air to me. I’m just spoiled for space, but I’m a sucker for minimalist setups too. The whole setup just looks so clean now, I’m a fan!

Super Easy Height Adjustment

The materials feels premium and has a nice touch to it. The table comes with Cooler Master’s own mousepad which sweetens the deal for gamers. The controls for the height adjustment is superbly easy, there are three memory setting profiles that you can customize, along with two up and down keys for manual adjustment, as well as an RGB lighting profile toggle button. The desk is meant to act as a sitting/standing desk, and it’s amazing for those working from home. Tired from sitting for too long, just adjust the height and continue working while standing.

For those wondering if the motors are any strong, I had Jes sit on the table top while it’s holding two monitors, and one fully built PC. The table could lift everything up with no issue. Just make sure that there aren’t any objects that could obstruct the table’s moving up/down path, and that all cables are given extra lengthening room to accommodate the height adjustment.

Let’s Talk About The RGB

The top rear of the Cooler Master GD160 ARGB desk has a recessed hole to stuff all your cables in like monitor, keyboard and mouse cables. I kind of wished Cooler Master didn’t position it there cause it blocks the monitor from being placed nicer. Would’ve been better if the hole was made smaller and placed even further back.

The RGB, like damn it’s bright, and can fill up the entire room. Gives the room a nice ambience as the RGB lights bounce off the walls. And when you don’t want the RGB, you can always just turn it off with the control panel on the front right of the table.

Taking movie night up a notch with some cool lighting.

I liked that the table isn’t just fixed with its default lighting options, but they’re customizable to your preference. Connect the table to a PC that has Cooler Master MasterPlus software installed, and you can customize the RGB lighting even further. Better yet, have the table’s RGB all synced with the rest of your Cooler Master PC components and peripherals. The possibility is truly endless.

Cable Management

In terms of cable management, the table has a section on the bottom of the desk where you can store all the cables, and even your extension plugs. This cable storage section is separate from the desk’s own cables, so you get even more space, and you wont have any cables dangling off underneath the desk*. Why the asterisk? Because this depends on how well your route and manage your cables. This was a huge deal for me because nothing annoys me more than seeing a jumbled up mess of cables. All I can see now is just one cable from my wall plug to the Cooler Master GD160 ARGB standing gaming desk.

Conclusion

Cooler Master GD160 ARGB Gaming Desk Review: Beast Of A Table 16

Priced at RM3,499 for the Cooler Master GD160 ARGB Gaming Desk, I’d say this is a rather nice investment, not just for gamers but also anyone who is still working from home or just wants to spruce up their home office. The overall look and feel of the table, along with the RGB lighting and option to have this as either a sitting or standing desk makes this a perfect choice for anyone. You can get this table at any authorised retail store or on Lazada.
