The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro was announced alongside the Samsung Galaxy S21 series smartphones in its Galaxy Unpacked 2021 launch event last night. With swift action from Samsung Malaysia, the Galaxy Buds Pro already has its local launch information revealed. The best part is, it finally uses an in-ear design again.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro
The Galaxy Buds Pro is the latest addition to the company’s Galaxy Buds TWS audio lineup, being the successor to the Galaxy Buds Live. The Galaxy Buds Pro feature a combination of an 11mm woofer with a 6.5mm tweeter to better handle treble. There’s also an air vent on top of the earbuds to reduce occlusion for spacious audio. According to Samsung, this combination should deliver deeper bass, crispier treble, reduced distortion, and a more dynamic and balanced sound.
For extra immersion, the Buds Pro supports 360 audio with Dolby Head Tracking technology. The motion tracking sensor pinpoints the direction of the sound as you move your head, and with Dolby Atmos, it delivers better detail with improved clarity. On top of that, it also supports Auto Switch where it can immediately switch devices depending on which device needs it. For example, you’re listening to music on your tablet, but when a call comes in on your phone, it will then switch over for a seamless experience.
The Galaxy Buds Pro is also equipped with three microphones, a voice pickup unit, and a windshield that acts as a wind guard to avoid the mic from picking up unwanted wind noise. This should provide a better voice during voice calls too, and the mics help filter out noise up to 99% of background noise.
When it comes to active noise cancellation (ANC), the Galaxy Buds Pro does have an intelligent 2-level ANC, with a 4-level Ambient sound setting. Apart from that, there is also a Voice Detect feature where the Galaxy Buds Pro can detect when you start speaking, where it will subsequently switch from ANC to Ambient sound for you to better hear your surroundings.
In terms of specs, the Galaxy Buds Pro utilizes the Bluetooth 5.0 connection protocol, and has an IPX7 water and dust resistance rating for added protection. Battery wise, each earbud has a 61mAh battery capacity, while the charging case has an additional 472mAh which offers an extra hour of music playback with just an hour of in-case charging. According to Samsung, the Galaxy Buds Pro can play music for up to five hours with ANC turned on, and up to eight hours with ANC turned off. Total expected music playback time is 20 hours.
