Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro Review: THX And ANC Makes The Perfect 1, 2 Combo 9

We decided to try out the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro, after reviewing the Hammerhead TWS X version. Their difference in name may just be the Pro and X, but these are very different earbuds at very difference price points, with significant feature differences too. Before we dive into the review, why don’t we check out the specs first.

Design

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

The Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro is a pair of TWS earbuds with an oblong in-ear design, offering active noise cancellation and THX-certified levels of audio performance. Its surface material has a smooth matte finish, which has a bit of grip to make it easier to retrieve from the charging case. The eartips that come with the earbuds of a more premium brand, called Comply. The stems are rectangular in size, and it’s fairly thick.

For the charging case, it shares the same smooth matte finish as the earbuds. In fact, apart from dimensions where it’s shorter, and less narrow than the X variant’s charging case, everything else is the same. These two charging case could not be anymore similar.

Comfort

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

In terms of comfort, the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro might just be one of the most comfortable TWS earbuds I’ve ever worn. It feels like you’re putting two mini puffs of clouds into your ears, and they stay in place the entire time you’re wearing them. I’ve always been a fan of in-ear TWS earbuds, as they provide a more snug fit and better audio experience. The Pro variant just brings it to a whole new level of comfort, along with the provided set of Comply eartips.

There’s also a Fit Test within the Razer Audio app, which is a mini audio test that helps you determine which eartip should you use for the best fit and audio experience.

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

After wearing them for long hours of work/casual music listening, I’ve felt no discomfort at all, despite the earbuds being quite large. The stems are angled away from my cheeks, and the earbuds are generally easy to put on and take off. There’s no mention of a water resistance rating, but wearing them for workouts, the earbuds work just fine and still has great grip from sweat.

User Experience

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

The Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro simplifies the whole pairing and re-connecting process. Once you open up the lid, your smartphone would already detect it’s ready to pair. Just tap on connect, and you’re good to go. The next time you open the charging case lid, it’d already automatically connect. Apart from using it as it is, the earbuds also has customization options with the Razer Audio app.

The charging case is convenient, has a nice feel to it, and the earbuds are easily retrieved from the case. On a day to day basis, whether using it for work or just listening to music, I’ve had no complaints whatsoever with the earbuds. They’re just so good, especially in terms of audio performance, you just drown in your music (more on that later). Another thing about the Pro variant is that it has wear detection, and we’re loving the feature for battery consumption measures.

Touch Navigation

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

Similar to the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro, the touch sensor is placed behind the Razer logo. However, the Pro variant doesn’t get the green backlighting. Got to make some sacrifices, right? But it would’ve been interesting to see the Pro version get full Razer Chroma RGB support.

All touch gestures are fully customizable, sharing the same gesture/commands available on the X variant. However, what’s different with the Pro variant is that you can now control ANC, which is a given. But, we’re still disappointed that there’s no direct volume control on the earbuds’ touch gesture commands.

How the Pro variant also differs from the X is that the touch panel is angled more flat, so there’s no issues with recognizing where to tap. That’s great because it makes the whole user experience more friendly and intuitive.

App Control

The Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro works with the Razer Audio app. Features work fine, and settings are easily customizable. However, I still face the same issue of losing connection in the app, as I did with the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless X. Apart from that, when the app decides to work, all features work properly as intended, and the sheer number of customization is just great.

Audio Quality

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

The audio quality on the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro, compared to the X variant is on a different level. Equipped with ANC and THX certification, these earbuds offer unparallel sound, regardless of the genre of media consumed. Without any EQ profile set, the highs are bright, with the mids rich and clear as day. When it comes to the lows, the bass is really punchy, but well managed. It doesn’t sound muddy, and can be enhanced with the Enhanced Bass EQ profile (if desired).

The ANC works so well that I didn’t even realize it was raining thunderstorms outside my place. I only realized when the lightning struck nearer to my place, which flashed the left side of my work station. But during testing, I could not hear my wife talking to me, running water, hairdryer, all of that is muted to very, very low levels.

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

When it comes to gaming, it’s essential to switch the earbuds to the 60ms low latency Gaming mode. This improves the audio sync between your smartphone and the earbuds, allowing sound and visual to be displayed in real-time without delay. It works really well, and we’ve noticed no lag in audio at all.

Call Quality

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

In terms of call quality, when taking calls on Discord or Google Meet (two of my most used conferencing apps), the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro performs excellently. Calls were crystal clear, and the caller could also hear me clearly with little to no background/wind noise at all.

Battery Life

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

Being a pair of TWS earbuds with ANC and THX, the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro’s battery life is sure to be questioned. On a single charge with ANC on and 50% volume, I could get about 3 hours and 45 minutes of music listening, which is quite close to Razer’s claims of 4 hours. Couple that with the charging case, it could give an extra 16 hours of use.

A quick 15-minute charge can give you 3 extra hours of music listening, with ANC turned off of course. Charging the case from zero to full takes about 1 hour 40 minutes.

Conclusion

Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro

The Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro is one of the best TWS earbuds out there that money can buy. There’s active noise cancellation built in, along with a bunch of customization features within the Razer Audio app, as well as THX certification for that extra kick when you’re watching or shows on Netflix.

While we had hoped to see wireless charging on the casing and RGB lighting on the earbuds, the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless Pro already offers a great deal of features for the price of RM1,199.
