Mi Watch Design

Mi Watch

Unlike the Mi Watch Lite that was boxy in design, the Mi Watch design is prone to look like a classic watch with a round face and two buttons on the side. The Mi Watch comes with a 1.39-inch AMOLED watch face which supports high resolution display which makes the font and design displayed more crisp and clear even under bright sunlight.

The frame of the watch face is made out of Glass fiber-reinforced Polyamide which gives it a sturdy and solid feel yet lightweight. The material allows it to be resistant to scratches from daily wear.

Mi Watch

Settled behind the watch face would be the magnetic charging nodes and it’s health monitoring sensors. The curve shape on allows your skin space to breath compared to certain watches that lays flat on your wrist. Despite that, I do notice that it is prone to sweat stains.

Mi Watch

The watch strap is fairly comfortable while holding the frame with a small latch to allow you to change straps easily. When purchasing the Mi watch, you are able to choose from beige, navy blue or black straps. While the Mi Store also have the TPU straps in oliver green, yellow and orange straps to be purchased separately.

Mi Wear App

Mi Watch

In contrast with previous devices by Xiao Mi, the Mi Watch no longer use the Mi Fit app to pair the device. It is now pairable by a new app called XiaoMi Wear. This app has been introduced for a while now, but some might not be familiar with it.

The app is well designed to track workouts and to customize your Mi Watch. Compared to the previous app, it is much younger and clean with a UI that is easy to navigate around with. The only down side to it is that it does not pair with other devices, such as the smart scale or the smart shoes. We are not quite sure if Xiao Mi plans to carry over the fitness ecosystem to be pairable to the new app in the near future to convert users to Mi Wear.

Mi Watch

The Mi Wear App offers over 100 choices of watch faces to be selected to your mood. After downloading the watch faces, you are able to change the design using the settings option on the watch.

Mi Watch

The home menu is accessible from pressing the top button, launching a full feature menu with icons made similar to the MIUI. For those who are not used to the icons, its does takes you a while to pick up which icon leads to what. However, the clean and fun colored icons did made me take a liking to it.

Sport Features

The Mi Watch supports up to 117 sport modes which can be categorized as water sports, outdoor sports, training, dance, boxing, ball sports, winter sports, recreational sports and other sports such as athletics or auto racing.

Mi Watch

For those who love the outdoors, the Mi Watch would be your perfect companion as the new upgraded chips is now able to record your movements more accurately. Apart from tracking mileage, the Mi Watch comes with a compass to tell direction. It is even able to tell elevation and air pressure of where you are, which comes in useful for climbs, trekking, or even caving. With the built-in GPS chip, you are now able to track your route and record without having to bring your phone around when you workout or to have it paired constantly. To check the record, you just have to sync it to your phone to view after your finish your workout.

The Mi Watch has a water resistance of 5ATM so it can be worn while swimming and showering without worries.

Mi Watch

Last but not least, the Mi Watch packs in a battery which allows you to go around your daily life without charging it for almost two weeks. Around 8 days from fully charged with Bluetooth always connected and notifications prompt on, I still have 31% of battery life available to use for the rest of the week before I put it to charge again.

Price and Availability

For RM 469, I do think that the Mi Watch is quite an upgrade from the Mi Bands and Mi Watch Lite that is worth the grab. Apart from the usual health monitoring features, it’s new outdoor features makes it budget friendly for outdoor enthusiasts. Those who are interested to purchase it can head on over to the Mi store to check it out.
