Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i Review: Amazing Versatility For Every Workspace 9

The Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i was launched not long ago in Malaysia. On first glance, the textured back of the device caught our attention, making it one of the more unique looking laptops in the market. Being a Yoga series laptop, the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i also has the signature flexibility and mobility for productivity.

Design

Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i

The Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i comes with a fabric textured chassis on the back of the keyboard. It offers an elegant look, while giving it a good grip so it doesn’t slide off your hands. The textured fabric also prevents scratches on the chassis in comparison with the usual aluminium or plastic chassis material. Not only that, it is also water and stain resistant, so there’s no worries about spilling your coffee over it.

Made for flexibility, the screen is made to be detachable from the keyboard. This allows the keyboard to be used both as a connected keyboard and a detached Bluetooth keyboard, which really gives the user more options on how they want to work with their laptops. Those who are familiar with Windows Surface devices would find this design familiar.

Behind the screen, there is a kickstand that props up the laptop in multiple angles. The kickstand is able to be opened up to a maximum angle of around 70°. The screen of the device works both as a tablet when tablet mode is on. The 13-inch display is capable of a 2K resolution output, offering bright and vivid visuals.

The screen is also touchscreen enabled, and it works with the Lenovo Digital Stylus which already comes in the box with every purchase. However, the laptop’s chassis doesn’t have any grooves or magnetic outlet that stores the stylus, so it has be kept separately from the laptop.

I find the screen to be much heavier compared to the keyboard which makes the whole device feel a bit unbalanced. However, the flexibility of using the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i as a tablet for entertainment to work as a laptop brings mobility to the workspace.

Although the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i is quite thin, it weighs slightly hefty side for laptops with this size at 1.16kg. In terms of I/O ports, the device has no USB Type-A ports, but instead is ready for the future with three USB Type-C ports – two on the left, and one on the right. There is also a 3.5 mm audio jack port for those of you who prefer using wired earphones. Lastly, there’s also an SD card reader for faster and more efficient data transfers for content creators.

Tablet Mode

Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i

You can choose to either detach the keyboard or fold it behind the screen to use the device as a tablet. Having the Lenovo Digital Pen makes taking notes easier. Being able to lay on a flat surface, you can easily use the device for brainstorming sessions for idea scribbling and notes taking.

The speakers built on the top bezel of the device are powered with smart amp to enhance sound played on the device. This is useful for presentations with videos and audios.

Apart from using it for work, the tablet mode can be used for entertainment purposes like watching Netflix and YouTube videos. The detachable keyboard can be used as a remote controller from a distance. However, sitting further away from a 13-inch screen doesn’t really make sense, unless you’ve hooked the laptop up to a larger external monitor.

Battery

Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i

The battery has a capacity to run up to 10 hours on a single charge, which is enough to get you through your day out for meetings. As for the wireless keyboard, it has a separate battery which charges when it is attached to the main body of the device. As you might have noticed, there is no power port on the device, as the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i supports USB Type-C charging via Power Delivery 3.0.

Performance

Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i

The Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i is equipped with a 10th Gen Intel Core i5 processor with integrated Intel UHD Graphics. Packing in 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD storage, as an entertainment and work laptop, the hardware on the device is decent. You are able to multitask without worrying about lagging, be it watching videos and working on the side. However, do not expect high performance from the device. The device would not be able to support any triple A game titles, but it can still run some light graphic games.

On a side note, as all the hardware is packed behind the screen, you won’t feel any heat from the laptop at all. The area where you rest your palms stays cool even after long hours of use. That being said, you will not be able to use the whole device on your lap, especially when you need to type as it needs the kickstand to balance the display. It is quite hard to balance it on an uneven surface, so it is better to use it in tablet mode by using the on-screen virtual keyboard instead of the physical keyboard. The keyboard is also not backlit, so it may be harder to type in the dark.

Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i

To counter that, we do have the Lenovo Digital Pen to enable taking notes on the go. Doodling and writing notes are made easy with the given pen. However, the Digital Pen is hard to store as there are no compartment to store the pen unless you forgo the wireless keyboard. The pen is able to attach to the magnet which was meant for the wireless keyboard. Yet, it is troublesome and it feels like we will lose the pen easily especially when it’s is brought out for meetings.

Conclusion

After using the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i for quite some time, we feel that the laptop is great for those who are looking for a device that can be used for both work and play. The textured fabric back does make you stand out when carrying the device around. It is unique and versatile for those who love taking notes on the go.
