Dell C3422WE Video Conferencing Monitor Review: The Ultimate WFH Monitor For Corporates

Dell C3422WE Monitor

The Dell C3422WE Curved Video Conferencing Monitor was brought into existence for the sake of online conference calls, and that still rings true due to the WFH nature that most of us are experiencing right now. It’s a monitor that’s baked with video conferencing features to ease your WFH experience, and to make it a more pleasurable one. There’s the Windows Hello webcam, dedicated Teams shortcut button, and more. But before we go into the review, let’s check out the spec sheet.

Design

Dell C3422WE Video Conferencing Monitor

Design wise, the Dell C3422WE monitor looks very premium, from the materials Dell chose to build the monitor with. The overall chassis uses aluminum, while the front speaker bar has a textured fabric lining. It really accentuates the working space, and I’m a fan of that. The monitor itself is pretty heavy, even if it’s a 34-inch monitor. The base is wide for better stability, and the stand itself is sturdy with a cutout hole for improved cable management.

In terms of ergonomics, the Dell C3422WE does support tilting, swiveling, and height adjustment. On the back towards the right, there’s the joystick for OSD menu navigation, and the power button right next to it. On the top of the monitor, there’s a pop-up section that holds the Windows Hello-certified webcam, two microphones, two IR LED sensors, and the webcam LED indicator.

On the front of the textured fabric, there are few buttons specifically for video calls. There’s the dedicated Teams button which launches the app if you have it installed, answer/end call button, volume down, volume up, and the mute button which mutes the microphone, but webcam has to be activated.

Dell C3422WE Video Conferencing Monitor

In terms of I/O ports, the Dell C3422WE has a pretty extensive range of ports to cover most features you’ll need. Do note that if you want to offset your USB devices to the monitor, you’ll need to connect the USB-A to B upstream cable for it to work. Once you have that plugged in, you can plug in your keyboard, mouse, thumb drives, and more, right to the monitor itself. On the bottom, there’s also the 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type-C port, and a USB Type-A port for easier access. You can even use the ports on the front to charge your other devices because it supports USB PD up to 90 watts. Charging the Asus ROG Phone 5 from zero to 100% took about an hour.

On the back, towards the rear facing downwards, you’ll see:

  • Security lock slot
  • Power connector
  • HDMI port
  • DisplayPort in
  • USB-C upstream/DisplayPort
  • USB-B upstream port
  • 3 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports
  • RJ45 Ethernet Port
  • 3.5mm Audio Jack
  • USB-C downstream port
  • Stand lock

Display

Dell C3422WE Video Conferencing Monitor

The Dell C3422WE monitor has a 34.14-inch LCD panel that is LED backlit. It has a WQHD resolution of 3440 x 1440 with a refresh rate of 60Hz. The display is also curved, has a 300 nits peak brightness, a 21:9 ultra-wide aspect ratio, and a 1000:1 contrast ratio. Response time however, is a little high at 8ms GTG normal and 5ms GTG fast, but that’s okay for a work-focused monitor.

There’s not much to complain about the display quality, really. It’s as good as it gets, apart from the 60Hz refresh rate. Details are clear and crisp, while colours are vibrant. The screen is also bright enough when you need it to be, and easily adjustable with the navigation joystick on the back. Instead of just having 2 pages at once, I can now run 4 pages on the screen for when I’m working, and that itself is a Godsend. The ability of having four Opera GX windows open in front of you is pure bliss, and it increases productivity levels.

The bezels on the side are fairly thick, but it’s acceptable considering the amount of time you’re going to spend looking into the center of this huge screen. When watching videos, especially those in cinema widescreen aspect ratio, this monitor is perfect. It is stretched perfectly, and the curvature just adds to the immersiveness of the movie/drama you’re watching, eliminating those black bars on the top and bottom too.

User Experience

Dell C3422WE Video Conferencing Monitor

Using this Dell C3422WE monitor for the last weeks, I’ve grown to be spoiled with 21:9 aspect ratio monitors. It really is life changing, and the fact that this monitor has video conferencing features built right in, it makes work life all the more easy. Granted not all video conferences are done on Teams, but when they are, I can just activate it with a touch of a button. The monitor has a built-in webcam, microphone, and speaker, all ready for me to join the call. There’s no need to look for any third party accessories, and that truly saves time for me.

I’m also loving the cutout hole on the stand, so I can route all cables on the back through it so that my desk looks tidier. The easy access ports on the front makes it very convenient for me to plug in my external SSD, or to charge my phone. The base of the monitor also gives me some space to play everyday essentials, especially with the monitor’s height being adjustable.

The thing about having a Dell monitor is the peace of mind. With every purchase of the Dell C3422WE monitor, you’re entitled to enjoy a Premium Panel Exchange, where the company would allow a free panel replacement during the Limited Hardware Warranty period, even if only one bright pixel is found. There’s also the Advanced Exchange Service, where your monitor would have a 3-year warranty, so if a replacement becomes necessary, it will be shipped to you within the next business day during the period of your 3-year warranty.

Another thing I liked about the Dell C3422WE is the built-in Webcam. I’ve mentioned that it is Windows Hello certified, so you can use it to login to your PC/laptop. It is fast at finding, recognizing, and logging you in, but because of how Windows Hello works, it doesn’t automatically go past the lock screen and into the desktop. Instead, you’d need to tap something on your keyboard in order to go into the desktop. Apart from that, it also locks others out as long as your face isn’t within the webcam’s view anymore, which is great.

Audio

Dell C3422WE Video Conferencing Monitor

Now moving into the audio department, yes, the Dell C3422WE monitor has a pair of 5W stereo speakers that plays audio from your PC/laptop. I was impressed at how loud the volume can get actually, which is great for video conferences and even watching movies. But despite the loud volume, some distortion can be heard when you’re past the 60% mark, so the sweet spot would be at 50% for me.

Audio quality wise, I’d say the highs are kind of muddy, but the mids are great, and the lows are there, but lacks a punch. After all, these speakers are meant for video calls and not entertainment specifically.

In Windows Audio settings, your PC will recognize two devices:

  • Dell C3422WE (Nvidia High Definition Audio)
  • Echo Cancelling Speakerphone (Dell C3422WE)

The former is for when you’re listening to general stuff like music, movies, and etc. The latter, however, is optimized for video conference calls. That’s right, when in a call, it’s better to use the echo cancelling speakerphone as it does reduces echo, and the mids are higher to accentuate vocals. And that’s essential because you’d need to hear what the person is saying, right?

In terms of speech recognition, video call participants have rated my voice as an 8/10 with good clarity.

Video

Dell C3422WE Video Conferencing Monitor

In terms of video quality, you’d need a well lit environment for the camera to capture a clear footage of you. Once it gets dark, the footage would be filled with noise and artifacts, and it’s just not great at all. Indoor lighting does improve it a little, but not by much. Apart from that, if you’re sitting in a bright environment where there’s lot of natural light, the video actually looks great, and the field-of-view is decently wide.

Here’s a photo sample taken with the Dell C3422WE monitor’s built-in webcam:

Conclusion

Dell C3422WE Video Conferencing Monitor

The Dell C3422WE Curved Video Conferencing Monitor isn’t a monitor for everyone. It has specific features built-in for a specific use case, but of course, it can also be used as a general monitor. However, that would waste the monitor’s potential of it being a video conferencing monitor.

You should get the Dell C3422WE monitor if you want an all-in-one solution for video conferencing from home, or back in the office (when you’re allowed to go back). It has a clear resolution, with a large satsifying ultra-wide screen, and even I/O ports that extends usability – charging phone, connecting laptop, plugging in a thumb drive, and more.

Don’t get this if you’re a gamer, because it is not made for that. This is a productivity monitor, and it won’t have all the features that are most sought after by gamers.

Priced at RM4,089, it is a little pricey to adopt this into your WFH setup or office. But, considering the amount of features it has, and the convenience it brings to the desk, we’d say it’s well worth the investment.
