Asus ZenBook 13 OLED is an laptop which Asus recently upgraded from its Asus ZenBook 13 UX325. With the upgrade of an OLED screen, we initially thought that it would add up quite an amount of weight to the device. However, it was just a 70grams difference from the prior.
Design
The Asus ZenBook 13 OLED UX325 also comes in a Pine Grey coloured, diamond-cut aluminum alloy chassis which keeps the device lightweight. Weighing at 1.14kg, it still has a thin side profile of 13.9mm with a closed lid.
The Asus ZenBook 13 UX325 has a HDMI 2.0 port and two Thunderbolt 4 USB C on the left, and on the right we have a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port along with a microSD card reader. Without an 3.5mm audio port, Asus packed in a 3.5mm to USB C dongle to make up for it. We do prefer to pair it with TWS earbuds anyway. Wireless is the best. Right?
Lifting the lid, we have the upgrade 13.3-inch OLED HDR NanoEdge display held by a thin bezel housing the webcam right above the screen. Supported with Windows Hello, you can now use the IR camera to log in instantly without typing your pin or password while keeping it secure and private.
Asus kept the Ergolift Hinge on this model as well which makes typing comfortable even for long hours.
The Number Pad 2.0 is also available on this model which makes calculating or typing numbers easy for people like me who love a full keyboard layout. The edge to edge keyboard design gives space to extra function keys on the right side of the layout. The function key mode allow you to change between hoy key priority mode and Fn key mode.
Why OLED?
Well, pretty much most of you would wonder why should you go for a OLED screen upgrade right? Is it worth the upgrade?
Upgrading to an OLED screen mean you will be getting so much more color accuracy when watching videos. Asus OLED panels are able to reproduce colors in a 3D colors volume, which means that it is able to produce color accuracy no matter how high or low your brightness setting is in. This is an advantage for content creators, weather you are editing a video, image or doing illustrations on the device.
OLEDs are able to produce true black on screen. Being able to display true black enhances other colors extremely crisp and clear. Its like the difference in the night sky when you view it from the city with loads of light pollution and in the outskirts where you are able to see more stars. It is the same when watching the same video in your OLED screen and your usual LCD screen. It takes off the faded/softened colors and display the images or graphic on screen as it is. Netflix Disney+ and chill on this device made me feel like I’ve got an cinema grade upgraded display for my favorite shows.
Apart from that, having and OLED screen is more comfortable for long hours of use. Asus OLED screen emits 70% less harmful blue light when compared to the LCD model. No matter for children or long hour working adults, lower blue light levels means better eye care for you and your loved ones.
Battery
The battery on the Asus ZenBook 13 keeps you going up to 13 hours, with music playing in the background gets you around 10 hours which is more than enough for a day’s work.
The Asus ZenBook 13 OLED is paired with a 65W USB C fast charge adapter which charges the battery from 2% to 60% in under 50 mins. In emergency, you are able to power up your device with your usual USB C chargers (5V to 20V) using just your power bank. By using the USB C charging port, it saves up space for accessibility as well by being convertible to other accessories.
Performance
The Asus ZenBook 13 OLED that we have on hand is powered by an Intel Core i5-1135G7 and comes along with Intel Iris Xe graphics. This is quite a big upgrade from the previous model which was powered by the Intel Iris Plus. It still has 8GB RAM and 512 PCIE SSD packed in for storage.
As much as we have upgrades on both the CPU and the GPU, the Asus ZenBook 13 OLED is highly recommended for work only. Gaming on the Asus ZenBook is not optimal as seen on the benchmark test. We tried playing Genshin on it and it can only support low graphics. Anything more demanding on that gets pretty laggy and the laptop heats up.
Our Opinion on The Zenbook 13 OLED
Should you get a Asus ZenBook 13 with an OLED upgrade, I would say yes it is quite an upgrade in terms of display and hardware. The OLED screen’s color is so vivid that when we return to our usual LCD screen, it feels like the color is faded in comparison. Watching movies and videos are great on the ZenBook 13 OLED.
Editing photos and videos are an great experience with the colors the screen is displaying. Even wallpapers from wallpaper engine looks so good on it. The only downside to it is to not be able to game on this laptop.
