An interesting report has emerged regarding Sony’s PlayStation 5 plans. According to Bloomberg, Sony is looking to produce as much as 10 million PS5 units this year to meet the demand of potential buyers. Should these reports be true, then gamers shouldn’t have to wait too long for the console to be restocked in stores.
Sony Aims to Manufacture 10 Million PS5 Units in 2020
Interestingly, the aforementioned reports have also mentioned that about 5 million of the planned 10 million PlayStation 5 units are expected to be done by September. This first 5 million batch of PS5 consoles is said to be made available to retailers during the launch period of the console. Meanwhile, the remaining 5 million units will be produced between October and December 2020, and these will be made for the Q1 2021 period.
During the launch of the PlayStation 4, Sony managed to only supply retailers with about 4.5 million units of the console; it wasn’t until mid-2014 that the company managed to reach 10 million units produced. Knowing this, Sony’s plan to produce 10 million units in 2020 will indeed be a remarkable achievement—and it could also help Sony in gaining more market share as well.
Sony’s PS5 console may very likely be manufactured in its plant at Kisarazu, Japan; which has the capability to assemble a new PS4 every 30 seconds. Those aside, one important question remains on everyone’s mind: when will the PS5 be released?
