It looks like shifting towards the free-to-play model is becoming a trend in the gaming industry these days. Developer Pysonix have recently announced that its well-known “Rocket League” game will be going free-to-play “later this summer.” But, there’s a catch: this version will be launched on the Epic Games Store for new PC gamers.
Rocket League Free-To-Play
Yes, you read that right: it will be launched on the Epic Games Store as well. That being said, Pysonix did mentioned that cross-play will be supported despite the game becoming free-to-play—including between those playing on Steam and Epic Games Store. Additionally, ‘cross-platform progression’ will be introduced in upcoming updates to the game as well.
All is not lost for gamers who have purchased Rocket League prior to it becoming free-to-play though. According to the developer, existing players will be awarded with the ‘Legacy’ status, to receive all Rocket League-branded DLC (before free-to-play) and many more. Do head on over to the game’s official website to know more about this transition and the incentives provided for current players.
