AMD Radeon Pro 5600M GPU Benchmarked

We’ve recently written about the newest GPU offering for Apple’s MacBook Pro 16: the AMD Radeon Pro 5600M. Interestingly, YouTuber “Max Tech” has been able to benchmark the aforementioned GPU and the results are rather impressive.

Based on several synthetic graphics benchmarks done by Max Tech, it was discovered that the Radeon Pro 5600M performs significantly better compared to the Radeon 5500M, 5300M and Vega 20 GPUs, which is to be expected. What’s even more surprising, however, is the fact that the Radeon Pro 5600M performance is only slightly lower compared to the Radeon Vega 48 GPU (found in Apple’s 5K iMac).

In addition, the Radeon Pro 5600M achieved admirable performance in gaming as well. Based on tests ran by Max Tech, the mobile GPU managed to churn around 60fps on games such as Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone—albeit, with graphical settings tweaked to ensure efficiency. Based on these performance, one can argue that the Radeon Pro 5600M performs close to the RTX 2060 notebook GPU.

Whilst the performance of the Radeon Pro 5600M is indeed commendable, we have to address the elephant in the room: pricing. As mentioned in our previous article, a MacBook Pro 16 equipped with the Radeon Pro 5600M is priced from RM13,699. You can easily get a relatively similar spec’d gaming laptop for significantly less

Knowing this, the price tag of the Radeon Pro 5600M-equipped MacBook Pro 16 doesn’t seem like a valuable investment if you’re solely buying the notebook purely for gaming. Then again, very few people buy MacBooks solely for gaming anyway; people mostly buy them for ‘productivity’.

But, if you’re a die-hard MacBook fan, a hardcore gamer and you have around RM14,000 burning a hole in your wallet, by all means.
