PlayStation 4 Controller Won’t Work With PS5 Games

PlayStation 4 Controller Won't Work With PS5 Games 5

Sony has released a rather surprising (but expected) piece of information that may or may not upset potential PS5 buyers. According to the company, the PlayStation 4 controller (DualShock 4) will not be compatible with PS5 games. That being said, Sony did mention that other officially licensed peripherals (racing wheels, arcade sticks, flight sticks and Platinum and Gold Wireless headsets) will work on the upcoming console.

PS5 Games Won’t Support DualShock 4 Controller

Sony mentioned, at its official blog, that ” we believe PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including features of DualSense wireless controller.” This may indicate that there are some major features on the new DualSense controller that may be required to fully experience next-generation games.

All is not lost, however. Sony did mention that whilst PS5 games will not be compatible with the older DualShock 4 controller, it will be usable on the PS5 console to play some supported PS4 titles (emphasis made on the “supported titles”). Whilst this may be somewhat of a disappointing announcement, the silver lining here is the fact that Sony has—once again—indicated that backwards compatibility will be available on its upcoming console; although it remains unclear to what extent this will be.

Meanwhile, Sony also mentioned that the existing PlayStation Camera will indeed be compatible with the upcoming PS5 console. The company stated that it will require an adapted to be compatible, but this will be provided for PS VR users at no additional charge.

Nevertheless, with announcements like this cropping up, we may not be far off from knowing the release date and pricing of the PS5. Hopefully this comes sooner rather than later.
