Nvidia: RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 Shortages to Last Until 2021

Nvidia: RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 Shortages to Last Until 2021 5

By now, most of our readers may have already noticed the fact that both the RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 are frustratingly constantly running low on stock. Well, Nvidia has recently rubbed even more salt to the wound by confirming that both aforementioned graphics cards will face shortages until 2021—which means stock will be very limited this year.

The announcement was made by Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, during the GTC Digital 2020 Q&A session. He mentioned that “I believe that demand will outstrip all of our supply throughout the year.” “Remember, we’re also going into the double-whammy. The double-whammy is the holiday season. Even before the holiday season, we were doing incredibly well, and then you add on top of it the ‘Ampere factor,’ and then you add on top of that the ‘Ampere holiday factor,’ and we’re going to have a really really big Q4 season” he added.

Nvidia is, however, not blaming this issue as one caused by its supply line. Rather, the CEO of the company mentioned that “the 3080 and 3090 have a demand issue, not a supply issue.” In essence, the company is saying that the demand for its high-end Ampere-based RTX graphics cards were simply too high compared to what it had anticipated. This raises an important question: will the RTX 3070 face similar issues? We think so; especially given the fact that this graphics card will no doubt be selling like hotcakes due to its impressive price to performance offering.

Those aside, it’s unfortunate that many potential consumers wouldn’t be able to get their hands on Nvidia’s newest RTX 30 family of graphics cards soon. But one has to remember, Nvidia isn’t the only GPU manufacturer around—AMD has yet to reveal its RX 6000 graphics cards (set to debut on 28th October). Hopefully, team red will offer consumers with graphics cards that are competitive to the RTX 30 series cards—this will indeed benefit many.
