A supposed ‘leak’ has recently emerged regarding Nvidia’s upcoming Ampere-based RTX 3000 series graphics card performance. The score—posted on 3DMark’s Time Spy benchmark database—was first spotted by _rogame of HardwareLeaks. Unfortunately, the benchmark database is not visible to the general public (it was set as ‘private’).

It has to be noted, however, that 3DMark’s Time Spy database does not explicitly mention which Nvidia graphics card had been benchmarked. Instead, a placeholder name “Unknown Nvidia Ampere GPU” was used. Given the ‘performance positioning’ of the said RTX 3000 series graphics card on 3DMark’s database, one can safely assume that it could either be a RTX 3080 Ti or a RTX 3090.

Those aside, when it comes to performance, the unnamed Nvidia RTX 3000 series graphics card managed to obtain a score of 18,257 on the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark. In comparison, the MSI RTX 2080 Ti Lightning Z only managed to attain a score of 15,079 on the same benchmark. In essence, this new, unlisted Nvidia graphics card is about 30% faster compared to the RTX 2080 Ti.

Additionally, the benchmark leak also provides us with interesting information on the possible specifications of this unnamed Nvidia RTX 3000 series GPU. Firstly, the 3DMark listing show that this graphics card has a boost clock speed of 1,935MHz; along with 6,000MHz of memory clock speed—although the latter may likely be an error due to incompatibility with the Time Spy benchmark.

It will be interesting to see just how well Nvidia’s upcoming Ampere-based graphics card will perform once they are released. That said, this ‘leak’ does at least provide us with an indication of what to expect. Nonetheless, given how this is merely a rumour, we’d advice our readers to take this leak with a grain of salt for now.
