Microsoft has recently announced that it will be introducing a new design for the Windows 10 Start menu. The refined Start menu is now more ‘clean’ looking with changes made to how application icons are displayed. To be more specific, the current ‘blocky’ tiled background/backplates that each application is displayed with on the Start menu will now be removed, making it look more streamlined.
Microsoft Redesigns Windows 10 Start Menu
Whilst this new redesign by Microsoft may be somewhat subtle in nature, it’s at least a step in the right direction to making Windows 10 more ‘modern’. Aside from this, changes have also been made to the Alt-Tab interface. The company mentioned that “beginning with today’s build, all tabs open in Microsoft Edge will start appearing in Alt-Tab, not just the active one in each window browser.”
Other notable changes include: Xbox app pinned on taskbar for Xbox Live users, Your Phone pinned on taskbar for Android users, along with a “X” (close) menu will now be added for faster dismissal of notifications. Moreover, links that once would direct users to the “system” area of Control Panel will now be redirected to the About page in Settings instead.
All the above changes to Windows 10 will first be released in Microsoft’s Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20161, before being made available to general users. Unfortunately, no fixed date has been given regarding the planned date of release for the new Windows 10 changes.
