The Mi Smart Band 5 was unveiled earlier this year, and it will soon make its debut in Malaysia on the 24th of July 2020. Being the successor to the Mi Band 4, the new Band 5 sports (geddit?) quite a few upgrades.
Mi Smart Band 5
The Mi Smart Band 5 now features a 20% larger screen compared to the Mi Band 4, from a 0.95-inch screen to now a larger 1.1-inch dynamic colour screen. It now also features magnetic charging with the charging point right below the heart rate monitor. This means you don’t need to always disassemble the Mi dial from your Mi strap.
The Mi Smart Band 5 also features NFC Quickpass which lets you make Unionpay payments faster right from your Band 5 with its built-in NFC chip. But considering how the Malaysian market isn’t big on NFC payment just yet, we might not see the NFC version being made available here.
Apart from that, the Band 5 can also be used as a remote camera shutter. So if you’re a distance away from your smartphone, just tap on your Mi Band 5 to take a photo.
Fitness tracking wise, the Mi Smart Band 5 now has an upgraded professional sensor which lets you have more accurate health monitoring. Apart from that, it can track up to 11 sports modes, and there’s also a new female health model onboard too, which lets women track their menstrual cycles.
Pricing and Availability
The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 will arrive on the 24th of July. Price wise, we’ll have to wait till launch day. But for reference, parallel importers have started selling the non-NFC version of the Band 5 on online marketplace for RM159 each.
