It looks like 5G support wouldn’t be exclusive to flagship smartphones anymore. MediaTek has made this possible by introducing its latest SoC called the “Dimensity 720.” Furthermore, the company describes this new processor as “a new standard, delivering feature-packed 5G experiences and technology to devices that are more accessible to mass market consumers.”
MediaTek Dimensity 720 SoC
MediaTek’s Dimensity 720 processor is based off of the 7nm process technology. In addition, this SoC also features eight CPU cores, which are made up of two high-performance Cortex-A76 (2GHz) cores and six Cortex-A55 cores. When it comes to graphics, this processor is equipped with the ARM Mali-G57 GPU, which has support for 90Hz displays and HDR10+ videos.
Memory on the Dimensity 720 SoC is handled via LPDDR4X and universal fast storage (UFS) 2.2. Those aside, it’s very likely that this mobile processor is currently being mass produced for upcoming mid-tier smartphones. That said, no smartphone maker has given any announcements regarding the usage of this SoC on their upcoming smartphones—although, this will most probably not be the case in the coming months.
