LG Wing Is The Company’s Latest Mid-Ranger With A Swivel Wing Display

LG Wing

The LG Wing has made waves over the Interwebs, but the company has finally officially unveiled it to the world. Though the specs and its capabilities have been released, there is still no pricing info made available.

Let’s get through the specs first. The LG Wing runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, paired with 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of internal storage. On top of that, it is also powered by a 4,000mAh battery and has an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance.

For its display, the company is using a 6.8-inch POLED panel for the main display. It also has an in-display fingerprint sensor. Once you swivel it off, you’d reveal the secondary screen, which is a 3.9-inch OLED panel. According to LG’s testing, the swivel action can last for more than 200,000 swivels.

The main benefit of this secondary display is to take over your notifications which usually gets in the way of you using your fullscreen apps. For example, you’re watching a YouTube video and everything else gets pushed to the secondary screen – comments, video controls, and even incoming calls. LG also lets you lock the secondary display so you won’t accidentally tap on it.

Notice there’s no front-facing camera? That’s because the 32MP selfie sensor is hidden under a pop-up mechanism. If the phone detects that it is being dropped, the camera would also detract automatically. On the rear, there is a 64MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, as well as a 13MP wide-angle sensor.

LG also introduced the new Gimbal Motion Camera. The company uses what it calls the Hexa Motion Stabiliser, which uses six motion sensors to help stabilise video recordings. This is accomplished with the implementation of AI using the wide-angle cameras. Not only that, the secondary display also turns into a virtual stick for you to control tilt and pan, ala an actual gimbal system.

Pricing And Availability

The LG Wing will be launching in South Korea first next month, followed by Key Markets in North America and Europe. Not sure if Malaysia is one of those countries, but judging from their past releases, we’re likely to think not. LG also hasn’t announced the prices for the LG Wing 128GB storage and 256GB storage variants.
