Illegear, a Malaysian custom laptop building company has recently refreshed their Rogue and Onyx V series gaming laptops with the inclusion of AMD’s latest Ryzen 4000 series processors. Launched last year, the externals may look the same, but the insides of these lightweight laptops now get a taste of AMD’s processing power.
Illegear Onyx V + Rogue
If the Illegear Rogue and Onxy V look familiar it is because the two laptops were actually introduced last year. The latest refresh does not change the external design of the laptops but it is what is inside that counts.
When it comes to the processor, gamers get to choose between the AMD Ryzen 5 4600H processor or AMD Ryzen 7 4800H processor on their Rogue or Onxy V laptop. These processors also mean that it brings AMD Radeon integrated graphics, promising quality in video and photo editing, as well 4K HDR streaming.
In terms of graphics, the Onyx V can be paired with an Nvidia GeForce GTX1650, GTX 1650Ti, or RTX2060 GPUs. As for the Rogue, you can fit it with either the GTX 1650Ti or RTX 2060. For RAM, gamers can fit them with up to 64GB of dual-channel DDR4 3200Mhz RAM.
What these laptops do share in common is that they both run on Windows 10 (64-bit), have a tactile keyboard with single-zone RGB lighting, THX-certified spatial audio speakers, and powered by a 47Wh battery.
When it comes to heat management, the Rogue has five heat pipes, a quad-vent and dual-fans to dissipate heat quietly and not compromise on performance. For the Onyx V, it has four heatpipes, four vents, and two fans to promote better airflow.
Illegear Onyx V
The Illegear Onyx V comes packed with a 15.6″ Full HD 120Hz IPS display. There are also two 2-watt amplified built-in speakers that are tuned by THX spatial audio. Made out of premium anodised aluminium body, it is sleek and weighs only 1.85kg.
In terms of connectivity ports, you will get:

- Microphone-In
- LAN port

- 1 x HDMI 2.0 port
Apart from that, the Onyx V also has two PCIe SSD slots, with each slot capable of expansion up to 2TB of storage, maximum.
Illegear Rogue
The Illegear Rogue is the larger beast of the two, featuring a massive 17.3-inch Full HD IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has Illegear’s Infinivision narrow bezels to pack that huge 17.3-inch panel into a 15.6-inch chassis. The material is dialed down a bit, made out of hard plastic with a matte black coating. In terms of weight, it’s slightly heavier at 2.45KG.
Made to connect with up to three external displays, gamers can use the HDMI 2.0 port and two Mini DisplayPort 1.4 too. As for the USB-C port, it doesn’t just work for data transfers, but it can also let gamers connect to external peripherals like an external GPU and SSD drive.
There are also two M.2 PCIe SSD slots and one 2.5-inch SSD/HDD slot. So if you really want to crank up the storage options, it can go as high as a maximum of 6TB.
