How To Install Cherry MX Mechanical Keyboard on Huawei Smartphones

Huawei Cherry Keyboard

Installing the Huawei Cherry Keyboard isn’t technically a new feature. The simulation of a Cherry MX mechanical keyboard on a Huawei smartphone was a feature that was launched as an exclusive Mate 30 series feature ever since it was launched last year in October. The feature has mostly been hidden away in China, until now. The feature has now expanded to other Huawei flagship series, and we’re here to show you how you can do it.

Eligible Huawei Devices:

  • Huawei Mate 20
  • Huawei Mate 20 Pro
  • Huawei Mate 20 X 4G
  • Huawei Mate 20 X 5G
  • Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design
  • Huawei Mate 30
  • Huawei Mate 30 Pro
  • Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G
  • Huawei P30
  • Huawei P30 Pro

Installing Huawei Cherry Keyboard

You can watch the video tutorial above that we made if you’re not into reading, alternatively, follow the steps below:

First, you want to fire up Huawei AppGallery and go to your “Me” settings, go into “Settings” and change your Country/Region to China. Next, go back into Huawei AppGallery and search with this Chinese text 百度輸入法華爲版 (Baidu Input Huawei Edition).

Download it, and you will find the Huawei IME app on your homescreen. Tap on it, and it will bring up the app page’s settings. Turn on:

  • Draw Over Other Apps
  • Write System Settings

Additionally, you can also turn on other permissions such as sms, storage, camera as you see fit.

Once that’s done, find something to type that will bring your current keyboard up. Swipe down on your notification bar, and choose “Change Input Method”. Select Huawei IME and you’ll be greeted with a new keyboard. This isn’t where you’ll have the mechanical keyboard yet.

Click on the four square menu icon on the top left of the keyboard. Choose “Simulation”, turn it on, and you will immediately be switched to the Cherry MX mechanical keyboard for Huawei. From here, you can select which Cherry keyboard design you prefer, and what switches you’d like to type on. Currently, the designs are:

  • Cherry Classic Black
  • Cherry MX 9.0
  • Cherry Classic White
  • Cherry MX 8.0

As for the key switches, there are:

  • Cherry Reds
  • Cherry Browns
  • Cherry Blues

Happy typing on the Huawei Cherry Keyboard!
