Google Chrome

Google’s ever so popular browser, Chrome, is well-known amongst users as not only being a RAM hogger, but also a significant contributor towards battery drain. Well, it looks like this is about to change soon with a new feature that may extend one’s notebook battery life by 28% or up to two hours.

Google Chrome to Consume Less Battery Soon

According to The Windows Club, Google aims to achieve the reduction in battery consumption for Chrome by limiting JavaScript timer wake ups in background webpages. Essentially, this feature will close any unnecessary JavaScript timers and trackers when a tab is not in use. It has been reported that Google’s internal testing have yielded up to two hours extended battery life in a test where 36 tabs were opened/running in the background.

Currently, this is only available as an experimental feature on Chrome 86 builds. That being said, it would be likely that this feature will be made available to PC and smartphone users soon; unfortunately, no fixed date was given. Those aside, this upcoming feature may prove to be super useful for users will lower-end notebooks or even those who work with a plethora of tabs.
