Google Now Lets You See Dinosaurs via Augmented Reality

Google AR Dino

Have you ever—for some reason—wanted to see what a dinosaur would look like in your living room/bedroom/kitchen/toilet/garden? Well, Google has got your back with a new feature on Search which enables users to see dinosaurs in any space via augmented reality.

Obviously, knowing this, you’d most certainly want to know how this can be done. Well, all one has to do is simply go on Search and type in a name of a particular dinosaur. An option to “View in 3D” will then appear. Currently supported AR dinosaurs include: Velociraptor, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Spinosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Stegosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Parasaurolophus and Pteranodon.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that the aforementioned AR dinosaurs will scale automatically to the environment they’re projected on. Then again, we’re not quite sure how well the scaling will work, especially when hilarious hiccups have occurred in the past.

Those aside, it comes as no surprise that not all mobile devices or tablet will be able to utilise this feature. Currently, only ARCore supported Android devices are able to use this feature. As for iOS devices, Google mentions that the AR dinosaur feature may only work on iPhone 11 or newer. Nonetheless, with this new feature on Search, one can definitely make their Jurassic World fantasies a reality—somewhat.
