Get Up To Speed: OnePlus 8 Series

OnePlus 8 Series

OnePlus officially announced the OnePlus 8 series via its global livestream today. We’re introduced to two new flagship smartphones – the OnePlus 8, and the OnePlus 8 Pro. As compared to the OnePlus 7 series, the 8 has made slight improvements here and there, so let’s get right into the specifications.

OnePlus 8 Series

Equipped with a 6.78-inch Fluid AMOLED display, the OnePlus 8 Pro has a refresh rate of 120Hz with a touch sampling rate of 240Hz. The OnePlus 8 on the other hand has a more compact 6.55-inch display instead. It also supports HDR10+ and 1300 Nits of peak brightness. According to OnePlus, the screens are so good, they both got an A+ rating from DisplayMate.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, the phones are also coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

As for the camera, the Pro variant’s rear camera system has four cameras. The main sensor is a 48MP IMX689 camera, along with a second 48MP IMX586 Ultra-Wide Sensor, a 3X Telephoto Sensor, and a Color Filter Camera to complete its quad camera system. As for the OnePlus 8, it only has a triple camera system that consists of a 48MP main camera, a 16MP ultra-wide camera, as well as a macro camera.

For the front, the OnePlus 8 series has ditched the pop-up mechanism selfie camera, and opted yet again for a selfie sensor hidden in a keyhole notch on the top left of the front display.

The OnePlus 8 does run on a 4,300mAh battery, while the OnePlus 8 Pro runs on a 4,510mAh battery. The Pro variant does support 30T wired Warp Charging, and finally, Warp Charge 30TWireless charging as well as Warp reverse wireless charging. As for the OnePlus 8, it only has 30T Warp Charging, without wireless charge support. Apart from that, the phones are now also IP68 rated for water and dust resistance.

Pricing and Availability

The OnePlus 8 series’ prices will start from £ and will be available in four colours – Glacial Green, Onyx Black, and Ultramarine Blue, and Interstellar Glow. Sales will commence on OnePlus.com on the 29th of April in the US, while the pre-order in Europe will begin immediately starting today (14th April) to the 21st of April.

There is no word yet on the availability of the OnePlus 8 series in Malaysia, but stay tuned to The AXO for when that happens.

Apart from the OnePlus 8 series, the company also announced its latest wireless earbuds – the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z. Priced at $49.95, these earbuds can provide 10 hours of listening time with just a 10-minute charge.
