DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything

Deebot Ozmo T8

The Deebot Ozmo T8 was just released in August, with a rather interesting price point considering the features it were offering. I personally have a Dibea D500B robot vacuum at home, but it was causing more problems than solving them for me. So, we reached out to Ecovacs Malaysia and they’ve sent us a unit of the Ozmo T8 for review. It’s time to get down and dirty. Well actually, not really.

Design

DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything 14

The Deebot Ozmo T8 looks like any other robot vacuum cleaner in the market. But, it has these small design cues here and there that make it look more premium. The design just makes natural sense, which makes it really to operate. Also, maybe it’s the sheer size of it too that makes it look more “expensive”, it’s definitely bigger than the Dibea model I have.

On the top, you get the dToF laser detection that’s covered with a brushed aluminium look. This laser sensor is the one that’s responsible for scanning and mapping your entire house. There’s also a lid that you can open on the rear to access the dust box and on/off switch. Once you open it up, you’ll find the dust box, the switch, a QR code for pairing, and the cleaning tool embedded within.

Opening up the lid, there’s the on/off switch, the reset button to make it go into pairing mode, and a QR code sticker for you to pair it with the Ecovacs Home app. For the dust box, just lift it up from the handles, and empty it by unlocking the clasps on one side. There is a 3-layer dust filtration filter in front of it, that can eliminate 99% of minute particle matter and filters particles as small as microns. Not HEPA, but good enough.

The cleaning tool has a brush on one end, and a mini razor blade on the other. The is to dust off any small dust that collects on the vacuum itself, and the blade is to cut off any hair that gets tangled in the vacuum brushes.

Looking at it from eye level, on the front is where the TrueDetect 3D technology sensors are. This is the sensor that will detect obstacles and avoid collisions. This sensor is a godsend because the Dibea mode I have would just go full speed and crash into objects.

On the bottom, you’ll find the roller wheels, and the vacuum brush. The brushes can easily be taken out by unlocking the two clasps above it. Once removed, you can take it out and remove all the tangled hair and whatnot with the cleaning tool.

Performance

Suction

DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything 20

The Deebot Ozmo T8 sucks really good, and I mean it. There are four levels of vacuum power you can choose from. In my experience, standard has already done wonders and left my floors spotless. Going into Max Plus, it would definitely clean up the tougher spots, but that also means consuming more battery power. Also, there is the option to choose how many times you want it to clean the area. Maximum is twice, so you can be sure the area is perfectly clean.

  • Quiet (Recommended for mopping)
  • Standard
  • Max
  • Max Plus

It takes in every dust and litter in its way. It’s really effective in picking up the cat fur, cat litter, hair, and all the random dirt and bits on the floor. Plus, there isn’t a lot of air being output from the sides of the vacuum, so you don’t need to worry about the vacuum blowing away dust and not being able to clean them.

Mopping

As with vacuum power, you can choose between four different water flow levels when it comes to mopping. It has the latest OZMO Pro system, which uses 480/min high frequency vibrations to help with stubborn stains.

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High
  • Ultra

The mopping feature on the Deebot Ozmo T8 works great. Just choose a water level, and it’ll mop the floor while it vacuums. For me, if I want it to just mop the floor only, I’d go into Quiet Mode with the water level set to medium. That way, it could cover the entire house with its water tank capacity. Even when the water level is low, the voice prompt will also notify you to refill it before it continues to clean.

Climbing

DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything 26

When it comes to climbing ability, it can easily cross doorsills up to 2cm. My house doesn’t have any doorsills or obstacles, but it’s can easily climb over thick carpets that I have.

Noise

DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything 27

In terms of noise, the Deebot Ozmo T8 is super quiet. Compared to the Dibea, it makes the Dibea sound like jet fighter flying through my home. Once it starts, there’s but a low humming sound that just fades into the background after a while, and it doesn’t annoy you at all. Unless of course, you go into Max cleaning mode, then it does get a little more noisy. The Ozmo T8 also has a really loud built-in speaker for voice prompts. It sounds good and clear, and fortunately, you can control the voice prompt’s volume level to your liking right from the app.

Sensors

DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything 28

The TrueDetect 3D technology and dToF laser detection sensors are amazing. One is in charge of collisions, while the other is responsible for mapping your house. The TrueDetect 3D sensors has never once let the vacuum bump into any object in my home. It may seem like it’s rushing into it, but it will gradually slow down as it detects objects in front of it. Even for the fish plush toys for my cats, they would avoid it by going around it and continue cleaning.

And as you can from the screenshot, the Deebot Ozmo T8 does an amazing job at mapping my home’s entire floorplan. It even labels each zone into alphabets, so I can immediately tell which area is which and easily designate which area the vacuum should clean.

The Ozmo T8 is also capable of mapping multiple floors, so you can save them in the app, and easily bring the vacuum to the right floor to carry out cleaning.

User Experience

DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything 30

The Deebot Ozmo T8 has worked wonders for me. I love how easy it is to setup, and operate on a day-to-day basis. To set it up, just place it in the charging dock, turn it on, and hold the reset button. Next, go to the app, then choose “add a device” and scan the QR code that’s on the inside of the robot vacuum. Once that’s done, you should receive a notification to update the robot’s firmware.

Do note that you will not be able to customize the robot if you do not update its firmware.

If you wanted to do a quick clean and your phone’s not with you. Just tap on the power button twice, and it will start cleaning with the last mode it was in.

Never once have I had to pick up the vacuum from being stuck, or take it back to the charging dock. With each clean, it has always managed to find its way back to the charging dock on its own without fail or assistance.

App Control

DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything 32

Ecovacs Home is the app that lets you control and customize the Deebot Ozmo T8’s cleaning settings to your preference. The app is polished, responsive, and packed to the brim with features – features I don’t get on the Dibea.

There’s a tonne of things you can do with the app:

  • Set Cleaning Sequence (e.g. Zone A > Zone C > Zone B)
  • Set Cleaning Preference (Suction and water level)
  • Choose A Specific Area To Clean
  • Set Up Virtual Walls and Boundaries
  • Manage Your Maps
  • Check Charging Status
  • Set Cleaning Schedule
  • Turn On/Off TrueDetect 3D
  • Check Cleaning Log
  • Link to Google/Amazon for Voice Control
  • Robot Awareness Button (To Locate The Robot)

After my initial setup, I’ve set all the preferences to my preferred settings. Once that’s done, the Deebot Ozmo T8 was capable of working on its own. All I need to do is clean out the dust bin and water tank after each clean. There is also a voice prompt that reminds you to clear the water tank after each clean.

Accessories

DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything 39

Inside the box of the Deebot Ozmo T8, you will find that it has multiple accessories to complete the entire experience. There are also spares of the side brush, disposable cleaning cloth, and filter should they ever become old and need replacing.

The default parts should last you a while, but once the time comes, rest easy that the box still has spares so you need not worry about replacements. If you run out, you can always purchase them again from Ecovacs Malaysia.

Battery Life + Charging

DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything 40

The Deebot Ozmo T8 is somewhat a marathon runner because it can clean my entire house on a full charge, and still have remaining battery left. The built-in 5,200mAh battery is huge, and on quiet mode, the robot can clean up to 3 hours.

To clean my entire home (excluding the rooms), it takes about 1 and a half hour. Even if the task wasn’t done and the battery runs out, it will return to the charging dock. Once charging is done, it will resume the cleaning task until the entire home is cleaned.

Conclusion

DEEBOT OZMO T8 Smart Robot Vacuum Review: Senses Everything, Sucks Everything 41

The Deebot Ozmo T8 is hands down one of the best robot vacuum cleaners I’ve ever used. It is so smart and independent that I can just do the initial setup, set the cleaning schedules, and let it do its own thing. The only part I need to do is clean out the dust box and water tank, and I’ve rarely had to dig it out of places where it’s stopped.

The Ozmo T8’s sensors work flawlessly and the mapping system is just scarily accurate. Being able to customize each clean, and select which individual area you want cleaned up (even multiple floors) is just mind-blowingly easy with the app.

Priced at RM1,999, I would definitely recommend anyone who’s looking to get a robot vacuum cleaner. If budget is your concern, I would urge you to save up, work with a broom and mop for now. And once you’re able to afford it, go for it. You will not regret your purchase. Definitely getting one for ourselves after we return this review unit to Deebot.

Thanks to Ecovacs Malaysia for sending over the Deebot Ozmo T8 review unit for us to test it out. To learn more about Ecovacs, head on over to Ecovacs Malaysia’s official website here.
