Apple today announced that their latest MacBook Pro 16 now has an AMD Radeon Pro 5600M GPU option. The base spec is still the same, it’s just that you now have a new and faster HBM2 GPU option to choose from.

To recap, the new Apple MacBook Pro comes with a 16-inch Retina Display with True Tone. It has a screen resolution of 3072 x 1920, with brightness up to 500 nits. That’s a 226 ppi pixel density, delivering almost 6 million pixels. It’s powered by a 9th generation 6-core Intel Core i7 processor, with a more powerful model equipped with an 8-core Intel Core i9 processor. It has 16GB of DDR4 RAM, with up to 1TB of SSD storage (expandable up to 8TB).

The graphics department is where there’s an upgrade. The base selections are the AMD Radeon Pro 5300M with 6GB of GDDR6 memory, or an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 6GB of GDDR6 memory. However, there’s now a new AMD Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB of HBM2 memory.

Being an Apple MacBook, it is also fitted with the Touch Bar, Touch ID biometrics system, Force Touch trackpad, and Apple T2 security chip. The Magic Keyboard is also new, with a redesigned scissor mechanism and 1mm travel.

Powering the MacBook Pro is a 100Wh battery, the largest ever to be packed into a MacBook. That gives it an additional hour of up to 11 hours of wireless web browsing.

Pricing and Availability

Apple’s new variant of the MacBook Pro is now available on Apple’s website. It will still come in two colours – Space Gray and Silver. The AMD Radeon Pro 5600M variant will be priced from RM13,699.

But if you want to fully max out your MacBook Pro 16 with all the bells and whistles, you can do so, but at the price of RM29,898.80.
