Xbox Series X

Announced back at E3 2019, Microsoft finally brought Project Scarlett into the limelight yet again, but this time with a new name – Xbox Series X. The company’s new console made its debut at this year’s The Game Awards 2019, and is scheduled for release at the end of 2020.

Microsoft is calling the Xbox Series X the company’s fastest and most powerful console to date. Judging from the picture, you’d think the console is meant to be positioned vertically. However, the company did mention that it can be placed horizontally as well.

Specification details are vague as of the time of writing, but the company did say that it is in fact powered by a custom chip from AMD that is based on Zen 2 and RDNA architecture. Apart from that, it also supports 4K resolution at 60 fps and is capable of being pushed further to 8K resolution and 120 fps.

New to Microsoft’s Xbox Series X is the inclusion of a solid state drive, which should help with faster game loading times. There are also new technical features like Variable Refresh Rate, Variable Rate Shading, Auto Low Latency Mode, and Dynamic Latency Input.

To showcase the Xbox Series X’s gaming prowess, Microsoft had a game clip from their upcoming title “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.

Alongside the announcement of the console is also a new controller. Having a new shape and size, the new controller now has a share button with a directional pad that’s based on the Xbox Elite Series 2 wireless controller. It also has support for thousands of older Xbox titles and Xbox One accessories. What’s also interesting is that Microsoft has promised four generations of backward compatibility.
