Razer Unleashes Its Lightest Mouse Ever, the Razer Viper

Razer Viper

Razer has added a new gaming mouse to its portfolio of performance-focused esports peripherals, called the Razer Viper. The mouse is built for the most demanding of competitive play, so much so that the company has collaborated with some notable esports professionals like MIBR CS:GO legend Epitácio “Taco” de Melo.

The Razer Viper is built with speed and precision in mind, and to do that, the company has opted for its proprietary Razer optical mouse switches. The company is claiming that these switches are three times faster compared to traditional mechanical switches. In comparison, an optical switch uses an infrared light beam through a shutter to send a signal to your PC for faster response times when clicked, where as mechanical switches rely on metallic contact that can sometimes result in a “debounce delay” that can cause a slower response time.

According to Razer, the Viper’s optical switches has higher durability, enabling it to live through 70 million clicks – a lot longer than the industry standard of 50 million clicks with other mouse switches.

“The click of the optical switches feels smoother and faster, and the flexibility of the cable makes it awesome for CS:GO.” CS:GO star, Taco

Weighing in at only 69g, the Razer Viper is the company’s lightest mouse. This is a mere 7g heavier than Glorious Model O’s 62g. The mouse now also incorporates the Razer SpeedFlex cable that has a new low drag covering. This ensures that the mouse cable will have less friction or snagging, allowing players to make quicker and more precise movements with ease.

Crunching down the numbers, the Razer Viper has a 5G optical sensor with a native resolution of 16,000 DPI and 450 inch per second tracking for better accuracy. Being a Razer mouse, the Viper works with Razer’s very own Synapse software and settings can be stored on the PC or in the mouse’s onboard memory storage. There are also eight programmable buttons for macros and secondary functions.

The Razer Viper is now available globally and retails for $80 on the Razer store.
