Nintendo Switch Lite Announced for September 20th Launch

Nintendo Switch Lite Announced for September 20th Launch 7

The immensely popular Nintendo Switch is getting a very colourful smaller brother added to the range, and it comes in the form of the slightly smaller, Nintendo Switch Lite.

The Nintendo Switch Lite is a handheld-only version of the more versatile Nintendo Switch. Essentially, what’s removed is the ability to plug the unit to a TV and detachable multi-player controllers. But, customers would be getting a longer battery life and a cheaper adoption price with the Switch Lite.

The Switch Lite has a permanently attached controller, no rumble feature, no Labo compatibility, but it does retain the essential portability feature the Switch is known for.

The Nintendo Switch Lite sports a 5.5-inch 720p resolution touchscreen, compared to the 6.2-inch of the full-size model. It also has a bigger capacity battery because there’s no need for a processor to manage outputting to a TV. In terms of form factor, it is also smaller and lighter, weighing in at about 277g.

Nintendo claims that the Switch Lite can play all the games in the Switch library that supports handheld mode. Consumers can easily differentiate these games via the Nintendo eShop and on-game packaging. However, some games will not be compatible with the Switch Lite such as Super Mario Party that requires the Joy-Con controllers.

While the Nintendo Switch Lite is a stripped down version of the Switch that has quite a bunch of features removed, its focus is still on portability and a lower entry price point to make it more accessible to everyone.

The Nintendo Switch Lite comes in yellow, grey, and turquoise, and will retail for $199.99. On top of that, it is also reported that the Switch Lite will have special Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield editions.
