It’s been three years since Netflix last revised its price in Malaysia. Now, the time has finally come where the streaming company will be increasing its subscription prices, just in time for the implementation of digital tax too.
That being said, the price change will not affect the mobile-only plan, as it will still continue to have a subscription price of RM17/month. As for the other plans, here are the new prices:
- Basic Plan: Originally RM33/Month, now RM35/Month
- Standard Plan: Originally RM42/Month, now RM45/Month
- Premium Plan: Originally RM51/Month, now RM55/Month
These new prices will be effective starting 9th January 2020, and members will be notified a month before they actually start paying for the new subscription prices. Say for example, your Netflix billing date is on the 15th of January, it doesn’t necessarily mean you will be paying the new price on the 15th. Instead, you will most likely be charged the new price on the 15th of February instead.
A representative from Netflix has mentioned that the main reason for the price revision is to allow the service to continue and to further improve the quality of contents and experience for its users. As for the digital tax implementation, the company has stated that these prices are already inclusive of the tax and is purely coincidental.
