Microsoft’s New Office App Combines Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Microsoft's New Office App Combines Word, Excel, PowerPoint 5

Before this, Microsoft launched three separate apps for its most popular office tools – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Today, the company has finally combined them all into one convenient app, called “Office”.

The new Office mobile app is available for both Android and iOS. According to Bill Doll from the Office team, this was to cut down the need to frequently switch between three apps. Making everything work in just one app, saves the user a lot of time and confusion.

Despite having the same look and feel of the previous apps, the Office app does introduce several new features. Users can now take a picture of a document or table and immediately turn it into an editable Word or Excel document respectively. Not only that, users will also have the ability to create a PowerPoint using the photos they have in their phone.

The new Actions pane also provides quick-access to features that are most commonly used by users. These features include:

  • PDF creation
  • File transfer between different devices
  • QR Code scan to open files

The new Office mobile app is currently only available for phones, but Microsoft is already working on making it available on tablets. Those of you who are interested in trying it out, the public review program is available for Android here, and iOS. However, the quota for iOS’ Apple TestFlight program of maximum 10,000 users has already been full at the moment.
