Despite the recent US government ban, it seems as though Huawei’s already prepared to turn the tables… a little too prepared. Having sold billions of smartphones across the world, losing access to Google’s Android platform could impact both the company and its customers.

However, according to CNBC, the CEO of Huawei’s consumer business, Richard Yu has come forth and responded that the company will be utilising its own operating system if it is permanently blocked from using Google (Android) or Microsoft (Windows).

Richard did reveal that the company’s proprietary operating system will be ready for deployment to consumers in China first, as early as later this year. As for the international version, it is expected to be ready by Q1 or Q2 of 2020.

One of the challenges Huawei is facing is the app ecosystem. Android users often have the Google Playstore as the default app store. However, Huawei already has the App Gallery installed on current devices, so developers would need to upload their apps to that platform instead to cater to Huawei users.

Richard did go on to further mention that this ban will not only have a negative impact on the Chinese company, but for US market as well. They did not want to do this, but the US government has forced their hands to do so.
