Sony has announced a rather interesting add-on accessory for the DualShock 4 Wireless Controller. Called the DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment, it adds two customisable back paddle buttons to your existing DS4 wireless controller.
Slated for a 2020 release, the two back paddle buttons can be customised with up to 16 different commands. The OLED display also provides real-time information of your button assignments. However, the display’s positioning does seem a little awkward because you’d need to flip the controller around to see it.
The middle of the display is also a button that lets you quickly remap the button inputs on the fly. You can also save up to three different profiles, changing them anytime according to the game you’re playing. On the bottom of the accessory is also a headset pass-through to allow you to continue using your audio equipment on the controller.
Sony has also mentioned that the controller is designed with the ergonomics of the DS4 in mind, supporting both current and upcoming Playstation 4 and Playstation VR game titles. Knowing that the Playstation 5’s release is imminent, Sony might have also designed the back button attachment to be compatible with the company’s upcoming console and new DualShock 5 Wireless Controller.
Pricing and Availability
The Playstation Back Button Attachment for the DualShock 4 Wireless Controller has been priced at US$30 and will be released on the 23rd of January 2020 in the United States.
